Fatventures of Fatmine & Fatmanda: Calhoun's

Omg this place has quite the variety. It's a perfect place to study too.

This is the Curry Chickpea Flax Roll (ikr, how healthy can I get). It was surprisingly really filling. It's like small burrito, but I think the flax and filling make it filling (haha, get it). I wished there was more curry though; the curry flavor was there, but no capsaicin.

Here is Fatmine's pizza. Chicken and...idk what else >___> uh...bell peppers? Cheese?

Gluten-free brownie (no, I'm don't have celiac disease, and no, I don't think gluten-free means it's "healthy"). It's pretty much straight-up fudge.

My pizza; the spinach and zucchini. The crust was surprisingly crunchy; I like pizzas with a thick and crunchy crust. It sounds so satisfying in mah mouth.

Ike's Cafe at Irving K. Barber Library at UBC ~~ Finals + Food

Sometimes, the café food at UBC can be a hit or miss, but usually the rice bowls and sandwiches are really good. I got a salad with balsamic vinegar, a vegetarian Panini, and chocolate mousse.
The Panini was REALLY good; it tasted really similar to mozzarella caprese. There was a lot of mozzarella, tomato, basil, and balsamic mayo (like whoa, innovative). The mousse usually isn't available, but I think UBC food decided to give out good stuff for finals, ahaha. It was rich in cocoa, not too sweet, and surprisingly light.

Maji ~~ Taiwnese Food

Although this place isn't vegan, they do have vegetarian options. The food is super fragrant and flavorful; I think it's mostly from the specific Taiwanese sauces they use. Personally, I like the strong flavors.

This small dish was one of the popular dishes; it's basically just eggplant with some kind of sauce (it has garlic in it, but that's all I can get, ahaha). I see why it was so good. I want to come back here and try more dishes.

Fatventures of Fatmanda (and no Fatmine): Mango Yummy

*Update: I just realized...I accidentally published this post when it had absolutely nothing. Your welcome.

If you want to get fat on Asian desserts, just come here; this is Fatland. Usually, there are lines coming out of this place because it's conveniently placed and its small. Honestly, the prices are a bit high for the quality, but a good place has to make bank, right? There's durian, tofu, mango, tapioca, strawberries, mochi etc. in almost everything you order. One item here could be your cheat meal of the week to keep your leptin levels up and running for good metabolism.

However, being me, I ordered 5 items and shared it with only one friend. I am Fatmanda...who had to work out like a horse the next few days.

Below is the Durian Pancake and the Mango Tapioca drink. The Durian pancake was suuuper good. They used fresh durian <3 My only problem was the lack of innovation for the pancake batter, because they used some type of crepe batter with a lot of eggs. It didn't taste bad, but I was hoping for variety. The drink was quite sweet, but it was combatted with the sour mangoes (yes, even the ripe ones taste sour because of my tongue's adjustment to how sweet the drink was). It was also probably really easy to make; mangoes, condensed milk, tapioca, milk. I somehow finished the whole thing >__>

This is the mango strawberry crepe (the names are so creative, right?) It tasted good, just like any other crepe; sweet, sweet, and sour because of fruit.

Basically this is tofu pudding dessert with mochi, except it's much sweeter that the tofu dessert that is served for dim sum. Filling? Very. Worth? I could make it myself for a dollar.

Here is the toast with mango, strawberry, mochi, and (guess what, a new ingredient!) honey. Not super innovative, but that's how this place gets rich. The bread was surprisingly good; it was crusted with sugar, which is something I don't see that often.

Takeout from Green Moustache ~~ Vegan Adventures

Thanks for the takeout Fatmine ;)

I'm pretty sure I've raved about the "Hook" smoothie in my last post about Green Moustache, so if you're curious about the smoothie, check my last visit at Green Moustache.

This is the first time I've tried the lettuce wraps from this place; the sauce has a mustard-like taste, so if you're not into that, don't get this, hahaha. The sauce is almost a necessity because the wrap has mostly bitter vegetables. The beets and carrots are pretty sweet, and the sesame seeds (if they don't fall off) add a good nutty taste. However, it's not really enough to combat the bitterness of the sprouts and lettuce. Personally, bitter is not my favorite taste.

Moreover, this wrap is messy. If you're on a date...I would reconsider ordering this, unless you can eat wraps like a pro. Clearly, I can't, because I ended spilling stuff everywhere; my clothes, the table, my laptop (and my laptop was about 6 inches away. I'm just talented like that).

However, I'm not saying I hate the food. I'm just...a terrible eater, ahaha. I still give this place very high ratings.

*Fatventures of Fatmine & Fatmanda: The Bubble Tea Shop ~~ destressing

Finding this place was weird...it's under Canadian Superstore in a Parking Garage. AND...the logo is in Gatsby font. hmmm....

Besides that, this place is really popular for its creative bubble teas (duh), smoothies, and waffles. They even have the top ten beverages on the menu, like pineapple kale smoothie, passion fruit tea, and the Oreo milkshake.

Below is the vanilla milk tea and kale blueberry smoothie -- both with pearls :P the smoothie was pretty typical; tasted like blueberries and kale, hahah. But the vanilla milk tea was really good; the flavor was deliciously overpowering.

it's good that they give these warnings

The banana bubble waffle. It. Was. So. Good. It's not that heavy either, since the dessert has a lot of air (HAHA).

And here is the S'mores bubble waffle. Like, daham. The marshmallows were toasted, and everything was sprinkled with cinnamon and tiny crumbs.

Adventures of Fatmine & Fatmanda: The Mug Brownie

This is college cooking 101 guys.

WARNING: mentally prepare yourself, because the following pictures are graphic (and they literally look like ****), and the grammar and vocabulary are pretty...well, ****.

I warned you, ok.

And no, we did not finish the whole thing, contrary to popular belief (though it actually tasted good).

So here's what happened:

Once upon a time, Fatmine and Fatmanda were melting chocolate and cutting mangoes (respectively). However, Fatmine put too much chocolate, so after our delicious dessert, we had copious, copious, copious, amounts of chacolatte. There we were, trying to figure out what to do. Peanut butter cups? Pastry dipped in chocolate? Then, Fatmanda had the dumbest idea; "what if we made brownies." And thus, we created...the magnificent chocolate brownie/cake in a mug, topped with more chocolate, and destroyed the decent-looking cake into what you see above.

The end.

Aphrodite Cafe & Green Moustache ~~ Work Gathering, Sustainable dining

My boss invited me to an end of the year gathering and paid for this expensive meal (thank you so much!) The food is super filling, and it's not too heavy either (except the desserts x_x)

This is the brie melt, which is basically brie cheese (the strips that look like onions are actually cheese), basil, and tomato on multi-grain bread. The flavors were super rich; you could taste the subtle sweetness from the tomatoes, the fragrant basil, and the creamy brie. I was surprised at how soft it was, because there was crusty cheese at the bottom...so I thought it would be as hard as toast. If you look below, I could cleanly cut everything with a butter knife :D so convenient.

Now, the pie...which was the cafe's specialty, and my death. x___x I got he chocolate banana cream pie <3 Except I scooped off all the whipped cream on the top...I mean, there's already chocolate mousse >___> (please don't judge me). The adorable powdered-flower is made of cinnamon and sugar; dipping a spoonful in it is delish O___O I advise you to share this beauty with friends because I could not finish....I ate all the bananas at the bottom, the chocolate dipped banana at the top, and most of the mousse...I couldn't force myself to eat the chocolate bits because I was too full.

Study buddies

Since Green Moustache is right next door, I got some smoothies for my friend. The one on the left is The Hook, which is basically a chocolate smoothie <3<3 It has cocoa, mint, goji berries, banana, honey, and almond mylk. The other is called The Einstein, and has strawberries, banana, vanilla bean, chia, maca (a root; it's also called Peruvian ginger), almond mylk, and honey.

Dharma Kitchen and Seedling's Beet Brownie ~~ Vegan Adventures

This place isn't too bad. The service was attentive, the atmosphere and colors were pleasing, and the food had good portions. The only downside was that the food was generally too salty.

The Dharma bowl contains marinated tofu, grilled artichoke hearts, eggplant, mushrooms, red onion, bell peppers, zucchini, sun-dried tomatoes, brown rice, and miso gravy. I think the reason for the saltiness was the marinated tofu, tomatoes, and the gravy. I think the miso gravy pretty much dominates the dish.

I shared the Green Goddess bowl with my mom. :P It comes with the same marinated tofu, broccoli, spinach, seaweed, ginger, sunflower seeds, brown rice, and tahini sauce. Again, the tofu was a bit salty, and surprisingly, the broccoli was too. I think this bowl contained a pretty good source of protein; I felt pretty full after the meal. It had a salty/nutty taste.

If you want a sweet dessert, I'm not sure I would recommend this, ahaha. It's a bit sour, but I still liked it. This was the Mango Tapioca Pudding, which was sweetened with brown sugar and thickened with coconut milk. Tropical~~~

On a side note, here's a beet brownie from Seedlings! I honestly have no where to put this picture...so here you go, ahaha. It has a brown-red color, like red velvet cake. It was like a delicately sweet fudge brownie. Yumyum.

Green Moustache and Homemade Briami ~~ Vegan Adventures

Green Moustache is reaaaaalllly good. However, they need to update their online menu more regularly because I cannot find the ingredients for the super delicious chia pudding bowl I had x_x

That being said, I WANT TO TRY EVERY ITEM ON THE MENU (clearly, this place is a 10/10 for me)

Leaving to take the bus to Green Moustache; went downtown, and then to Surrey

Plants in mason jars!! <3

Dali smoothie
The Dali smoothie was super filling and fruity :) The mixed berries, goji berries, and honey dominated the taste, which is not a bad thing! It also contains honey, almond "mylk", and hemp seeds.
Chia Pudding Bowl
Unfortunately, Green Moustache has not updated their fall 2014 menu (they should get on that), so I'm not 100% sure what the ingredients are O_O There's definitely seeds (duh), goji berries, coconut flakes, and almond "mylk", but I couldn't quite put my finger on the yellow powder....sweet curry powder? The pudding was delicately sweetened and tasted tropical.
Homemade Briami with my Uncle :P
This dish will not be my holy grail. I'm so glad my uncle introduced this recipe to me; the flavors are so rich! The key ingredients for creating this richness are sweet vegetables, like sweet potatoes and bell peppers, and garlic + onion + herbs to add more dimension to the flavors. When I finally get a kitchen, I will be making this every week.

Indigo Age ~~ Vegan Adventures

At first, I was trying to find Gorilla Food...but it's permanently closed because I think Indigo Age took over, haha. Indigo Age is right below a Tattoo shop; could've totally walked into the wrong place!

This place is really good. Though they ran out of a lot of ingredients when I arrived (it was around 5pm), the stuff that I ordered was worth it. Both the Triple C smoothie and Kelp Veggie Noodles tasted unique and flavorful.
Kelp Veggie Noodles: clear noodles, zucchini noodles, carrot noodles, red pepper, mushrooms, and spices
Triple C: orange, avocado, apple, ginger, pear, lemon, goji berries, dates

Edible Flours ~~ Vegan Adventures

There are only two items here because...we didn't want to get fat ordering the whole menu, lol.
This place is super adorable, and it's also vegan and gluten-free friendly. Although not very big, it's pretty spacious. You can also watch them bake (even their little kid!). I also saw some of them go shopping for good quality products in a nearby market, so that deserves extra points.

Cinnamon Roll made with brown rice flour and tapioca flour

Ingredients for the cinnamon roll (there's also a non-gluten free cinnamon roll)

Heirloom Vegetarian Restaurant ~ Vegan adventures

Although Heirloom isn't completely vegan, most dishes have vegan or gluten free options available. Warning: this place is on the pricey side, so it's best to share these large portions with a friend (trust me; your stomach won't explode, and you'll pay about $5-$8 instead). This place is perfect for brunch, and super trendy (hipsters are everywhere, hahaha).
Fire Extinguisher pressed juice and a latte
I got the pressed juice and my friend ordered the latte. The Fire Extinguisher has carrot, orange, pineapple, lemon, turmeric, and ginger.
Tomato avocado sandwich (basically a BLT, but with "beet" bacon)
This is my dish^ :)
Eggs Benedict
My friend's dish. The sauce is the best (yumyumyum). My friend and I think it's cocktail sauce :P
