Koerner Pub at UBC ~~ Sustainable Dining

This place is soooooo hipster <3
Just for the record, I didn't drink anything, I swear. The food is wonderful on its own; BUT if you want a drink, the beers and pressed juices come in adorable mason jars :D how cool is that??? You're allowed to take it home with a $1 deposit, and then return it the next time you come back for another drink.

My friends and I came here for the free ice cream, hawhawhaw. We also didn't realize how big the portions were, so we kind of got fat.
"Spicy" roasted chickpeas and edamame
I put "spicy" in apostrophes because...it wasn't really spicy. It was just coated in curry powder. This kind of snack is super cheap, and compliments the bitter taste of beer with its strong flavors.

The nachos...got really spicy, hahah. They used fresh jalapenos; it wasn't so bad at first, but it started to get really spicy after a while.

I LOVE THIS SALAD. It's called kale and quinoa salad, but there's much more than that; there's cranberries, pumpkin seeds, shredded squash *squeal* I love my salads.

This pressed juice is called the "braniac"; it has beets, carrots, celery, ginger...I don't know if I'm missing any ingredients, haha. It's GREAT, unless you don't like the super healthy stuff...whatever, I like it. The ginger really overpowered :D I like ginger, but if you don't...you may not want to order this. :P

ICE CREAM
THE MOMENT WE HAVE ALL BEEN WAITING FOR...ice cream <3 You can't really tell (even in real life), but the one on the right is London Fog and the one of the left is Whiskey Hazelnut. They are SO good; it has that rich homemade taste. The London Fog is sweet and delicate in comparison to the Whiskey Hazelnut; the Whiskey Hazelnut has a strong cinnamon/spice flavor. My friends and I went to heaven <3
For the meat eaters, like my friends, they ordered pulled pork sandwiches; these are basically those popular Taiwanese buns that are stuffed with pork, except this version has pork from a different part of the pig. My Asian friends approve of this rendition; they said it was really tasty.

Great Dane (and Seedlings) at UBC ~~ Vegan Adventures

Although Great Dane is not a Vegan place, it's convenient and trendy for UBC-ers (aren't my engrish great??). To be REALLY honest...it's pricey for a poor college student, especially when you compare the prices ($6 for this babe) to Seedings ($5 for a burger and salad). Nonetheless, Great Dane is still great (haha, see what I did). They serve sandwiches (yes, there's meat), soups, lattes, other coffee-related beverages, and even Kombucha (the tea that tastes like vinegar).
Chickpea burger with a stuffed mushroom and apple-carrot-pumpkin seed-kale salad (I really don't know what to call it)
Just for comparison, I scaled the pictures; I get a salad and burger at Seedlings for a dollar less. Great Dane 0 : Seedlings 1.

Naam ~~ Vegan Adventures begin

It's almost summer...and many things are in season.
So, it's time to cleanse ~~

The Naam is open 24/7 but...it's so tiny, and the lines are a million light-years long (exaggerating; probably a 10 minute wait, at best).

The place is very thrifty and cozy; at certain hours, they hire live musicians to play and they have paintings with prices on the walls. One word to describe this place: HIPSTER.

I looove the food they serve. Everything was filling, but in a very "clean" way; nothing super heavy, nothing with a lot of grease. My friend ordered a salad, and she felt full from the walnuts and goat cheese.

I had the Mexi Dragon Bowl, which is basically a rice bowl with ingredients that you would normally put in a Mexican entrée (except with more vegetable variety, of course). Once I mixed it...it didn't look very pretty, hahah, but it still tasted like heaven.

Also, the "milk" shakes are made with tofulati! Not the prettiest name in my opinion, but it's basically soy-based ice cream that tasted awesome. I was sooooo full from the protein that I got from the shake and dragon bowl x_x this place deserves a 20/10

Mercante at UBC

This place is probably one of the gems on UBC campus; it's Italian-style pizza :P Ranging from $9-10 and about less than a foot in diameter (each one seems to come in a different size), it's pretty worth it. Since I'm vegetarian, I can only get the top three choices. My personal favorite is the Ortonlana, which has artichokes and sundried tomatoes topped with arugula. They also serve coffee and tea along with the super heavy Dolce Panino. The Dolce Panino is very filling; try not to get that with your pizza, otherwise...you'll really get fat, hahaha. Unfortunately, I don't have a picture of the time I ordered the Dolce Panino, but it's a good go-to if people feel like eating something sweet. It's basically like a toasted ice-cream sandwich with tiny cookie pieces inside, along with a huge amount of whipped cream on the side.

Adventures of Fatmine & Fatmanda (and an extra): Tealips (warning, big servings)

Bubble tea x Ice cream = best friends
warning: Share your desserts unless you want to get fat. It's biiiig O_O my friends and I wanted to try different desserts, but we got so full after the ice cream (lots of ice cream, fruits, and RED BEAN, dat protein and fiber guys). We could hardly finish it between three people...I wish we could've tried other desserts too ;___; they serve dessert waffles...

Adventures of Fatmine & Fatmanda: Memory Corner

Totally forgot about this place *_* My potted dessert took forever to come...looks like a real plant, right? It's cookie crumbs and a mint leave on top of strawberries, apples, kiwis, and vanilla ice cream. Not really worth $6, but the effort to make it is what makes it pricey.

Also got the almond chocolate toast :P My friend ordered a salted caramel cap drink (basically heavy cream on top of the salted caramel) and my other friend ordered a strawberry banana smoothie.

I should warn you guys that the giant toasts that they serve have to be ordered a day in advance since they take a really long time to put together...Also, they don't have a lot of the drinks on the menu during this time of the year because it's out of season -__- so saaad.

Adventures of Fatmine & Fatmanda: Miura ~~ Japanese Waffle Sandos*

*by sandos, I mean, sandwiches.
Honestly, a lot of the stuff is really easy to make; you pretty much put the stuff you want between two waffles. It tastes really good :D I got a veggie waffle sando and the cheesecake dessert waffle. My friend ordered the banana cream waffle sando. The place is also super adorable...so Japanese *_* worth it <3

There was also a couple and a baby that sat next to us; the baby couldn't stop staring at me :3 so cute...and then a bunch of food just poured out of its mouth, hahahaha

SEEDLINGS...seedlingz........seedlaannggzzz.....?

I think y'all should realize that I'm never going to stop coming here until I try everything. 🍔🍲🌱

The best bang for you buck is the burger/stew + salad combo for $5 CAD (???), except... They must've run out of salad because they gave me stew haha. Both of them were black bean, so I full suuuupppeeerrr full.... X___X all of that protein and fiberrrrr....

If you're vegan or vegetarian, this place is especially important for you to try... But just for the record, meat lovers love it too. ;)

Han Ju: hot pot at Crystal Mall

I haven't been to Crystal Mall for a long time...but when my friend came up to visit me, and my concert and midterm was over with, I was like...friendship + food > responsibilities (don't worry, I got everything done). Vegetarians, there's is almost nothing for you to eat here, so I'm sorry. BUT...it's cheap. My veggie hot pot was about $7 CAD; pretty nice, eh? All of the dishes are extremely filling too.

Adventures of Fatmine & Fatmanda: Orange Corner

Hay guyz I went to orenji kerner. It was a dark and stormy night (jk, but it was dark and rainy), and we took the disgustingly hot bus to Kerrisdale...I was so happy that I got crepes and bubble tea to sooth my stressful day <3 omnomnom (or should I say...onmonmon). Though on the pricey side, they have a great variety (crab and avocado crepes and caramel milk tea maaaan). 9/10

Left to right: passion fruit tea, caramel milk tea, red bean milk tea

Crab meat and avocado crepe (on the bus, sweggin)

HOW CUTE IS THIS <3

Adventures of Fatmine & Fatmanda: Capstone ~~ Fondue and drinks

Warning: this place is overpriced -__- you could honestly melt your own chocolate and put it over a candle...but I guess this is just something a person should try at least once. My friend and I decided to split the combo set to cut down the cost dramatically; getting your own $10 set comes with a medium sized drink.

Potluck of treats over the last few weeks

Since I've been putting this off too long, I'm just going to consolidate the highlights of the last few weeks into this post, haha.

Shrimp fried rice from Pegasus in Redmond Town Center
There's not too much pho around Redmond (especially after Pho Than Brothers closed..like what??), but luckily enough, a relatively new place called Pegasus will still satisfy your Viet cravings. It's also relatively inexpensive and they have a wide variety of options. What else could you ask for?

I got this Shrimp tempura hand roll at the T&T supermarket. Honestly, $2 for a wrap is pretty meh, but whatever...because buying overpriced hand rolls or onigiri is something a college student should do at least once, hahah. Besides, I still suck at making hand rolls and sushi (the excuses to justify this situation will never end)

I'm pretty proud of this hot chocolate. If you recall my adventures during the hot chocolate festival, those hot chocolates that were 72% or 60% were pretty much like what I made here. All I did was put brown sugar with cocoa powder, and then added hot water. I paid $8 during the hot chocolate festival D:< now, I am an HC master (close enough).

Not lunar new year anymore (last month, ahem), but just look at the cake and forget my irresponsibleness.

Strawberry daiquiri at Mahony and Sons. Honestly, I don't like alcohol because to me it tastes terrible...but I can't even taste the alcohol. I mean, I should've just gotten a virgin version of this. It's like a high class strawberry slush.

Last but not least, the PEACH BLOSSOM LATTE. I've been wanting to try this after seeing all of the instagram photos...it's pretty much earl grey tea with peach syrup, but we all know Starbucks overprices their drinks. It's ok, take my money Starbucks. You're just Bing rewards anyways (LOL).
