Sorry for the delay, I've been busy in Whistler. Had lots of good food in Whistler and Vancouver...I'm so behind. I'll probably be posting quite a few old things this week to make up for my tardiness.
I finally got to try Bandidas Taqueria. My professor recommended this place, and I have no regrets. It's also entirely vegetarian. It's not too pricey, and the food tastes real and wholesome.
This is their brunch option, which I ordered before class one day. From a nutritional standpoint, it's definitely a balanced meal. I saved some for lunch too.
My grandma got this from her friend at the temple that she frequents. This stuff is amazing; it's fake dried pork floss. When I was young, I used to pig out on pork floss because it was sooooo good. I'm so happy that I tried the vegetarian version. I tried finding this at T&T, but couldn't find it :( If someone knows a store I can go to to get this, that'd be great lol. I mean, I can order it online, but I like to buy stuff in person.
Before a concert, I finally got to try Spaghetei :P Eggnoch said he tried it before, and it was good. Honestly, there wasn't a lot to choose from for me since I'm vegetarian, but I'm sure if you ask about any alternatives they'll be willing to accommodate.
Fatshrewm's
The thing I love about Japanese cuisine is how they neatly arrange their food. The sauce that came with the spaghetti was also very Japanese; it was slightly tangy/acidic, sort of like their unique salad dressing.
Afterwards, I've been dying to visit Snowy Village again and so we went to the one on Robson. This place makes me so happy <3 the shaved ice is milky and tastes like cereal milk, even when it's melted.
Fatshrewm and another friend ordered a mango shaved ice.
I also made an almost vegan french toast :P Instead of using about 2 eggs, I used 1 egg and some chia seeds. The only problem with chia seeds is that they need to soak a bit in liquid before being dipped so that the texture mimics the egg's texture. They added a nice crispy crunch. Instead of using regular milk, I opted for chocolate soymilk, which was one of the best decisions of my life.
This was my lunch at UBC one day. I went to Loafe to grab a quick lunch.
Another vegetarian friend of mine agreed to try Meet, so we finally went :D So good, great for meat eaters and obviously vegetarians because the cuisine is entirely vegan. They're also gluten-free friendly. These were the corn fried bites, which had really good chipotle mayo sauce.
My friend loves mac and cheese, so she decided to give the mac and cheese burger a go. the patty itself wasn't really doing it for both of us. It wasn't that flavorful in comparison to other patties that we've tried. Although it didn't break apart easily, it was flimsy, like firm tofu.
This coconut chocolate tart was the best. I felt so fat after eating this, and the coconut taste isn't even that evident in the ganache. The crust is really hard to cut, but never mind that; the filling is luxurious.
This was sort of like a burrito bowl, The sour cream was made of cashews :O I've heard of cashew based dairy products, but never got to try them. It didn't taste exactly like sour cream, but it still added guilt-free creaminess to the bowl.
One day, I had avocados and a bunch of cocoa powder...and still some chocolate soymilk (which is optional in this recipe) and bananas. Sooo I was like...why not try and make pudding. I threw them in a blender and tadaaaa. I couldn't even taste the avocado or banana, and it was sweetened nicely from the overly ripe bananas. So good, no lactose problems.
Fatmine is such a bae for getting durian creme brulee, especially since she hates durian. I love this. I want to visit crackle creme one day and go ham.
One of the biggest highlights for me was the Catfe :D Although Pizza Guy couldn't make it, Fatmine and I still enjoyed the company of cats (even though Fatmine began to suffer from allergies. Cuteness > allergies).
According to the staff, most of the food provided is from other shops. I believe these macarons came from crackle creme, and obviously the vegan pudding came from the vegan pudding co.
Aren't they so adorable.
KITTY, PLZ LOVE ME.
Before I left, I was like eh, let's get more food. so I got a brownie. Honestly, I like my brownies more crispy but rich, but this was a little on the cake-y side. The frosting I got was peanut butter. It was overly sweet, but the peanut butter taste did an okay job of toning down the sweetness. The brownie wasn't as sweet, so I think the idea was to eat a good portion of frosting and brownie in one bite.
