It's kind of ironic that I'm starting classes next week...and I'm posting about my last week of classes, hahaha.
My professor took our studio out for dinner at Rajio (which means "radio" in Japanese). Rajio is a chain with Suika (means "watermelon") and Kingyo ("goldfish"). Each place serves different food, but they're still quite similar. I got the corn karaage, a watermelon punch, and some vegetable tempura (asparagus, lotus root, and zucchini). The watermelon punch is all over Instagram; it's honestly a rip off, but at least it looks nice. I shared it with a friend.
For my friend's birthday, we went to Hapa Izakaya, which is another place I've had my eyes on. The cocktails are expensive, but I think they're worth a try. I had a sip of the Hello Kitty and the Harajuku Girl. I liked the taste of the Harajuku Girl more than the Hello Kitty because the flavors were stronger. The drink I ordered was the Pear Saketini, which wasn't really my thing. The pear taste was subtle, and I thought they could've used more pear syrup. I had fried udon without the chicken and a friend of mine ordered the chicken karaage (?). I think Hapa Izakaya is expensive, and the food is not amazing (but it was still tasty). :/ I was still kind of disappointed.
After our last concert, my friends and I went out to Wolf and Hound for some food and down time. I got the deep fried brussel sprouts, which are just not as good as the ones in The Pit Pub at the UBC Nest. I felt like the strong flavors from the Parmesan cheese and the lemon were clashing too much. The Pit Pub adds a honey dip to balance out the flavors. I think these could've used some sugar. However, I was pretty impressed with the smoky flavor.
My parents also came to visit, so we went to Shizenya. They're vegetarian friendly, and their food is very presentable and colorful. They have a good lunch combo, so make sure you stop by before 4pm (?) to snag that deal. I got the spinach curry with brown rice, which comes with a salad. The other dishes were my parents'.
We also went to brunch at Forage, since my parents were staying at the Fairmount Hotel (Forage is still a long walk from the hotel, but time flies quickly). I've also wanted to try Forage for a long time, so I'm glad I finally went. I got the mushroom omelet that comes with potatoes and marinara sauce (usually potatoes come with ketchup. Marinara is sweeter and more delicate than ketchup). My dad got the french toast with strawberries and bacon, and my mom ordered sausages and eggs. The sausages and the omelet come with toast and homemade jam, which was really nice. They gave us raspberry and strawberry jam, and apricot jam. The little jars were also kept cold.
